Environmental Compliance & ESIA Coordinator (m/f)

About the role

The successful candidate will report to the E&S Director and lead environmental licensing and the ESIA process for a large‑scale infrastructure project in the energy sector. This role combines strategic oversight of the Environmental Management System with hands‑on coordination of permits, consultants and stakeholder engagement.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee environmental licensing and coordinate the full ESIA process.
• Develop, implement and continuously improve the Environmental Management System (EMS) in line with Mozambican legislation, IFC Performance Standards and the Equator Principles.
• Provide technical environmental guidance to project teams and build internal environmental management capacity.
• Design and execute environmental compliance plans, procedures and monitoring systems.
• Manage permitting activities, acquire required licences and supervise environmental and social consultants.
• Coordinate awareness and training initiatives on compliance and ESIA requirements.
• Act as the operational interface with lenders, regulators, local communities and other stakeholders.
• Lead field implementation of ESIA activities, including contractor coordination, public consultations, budgeting and logistics.
• Monitor progress, quality and timely delivery of environmental studies and licensing tasks, with regular site visits.

Required profile

• Degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resources, Ecology, Biology or a related field.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in environmental management for large‑scale infrastructure projects, including ESIA preparation and oversight.
• Experience in the energy sector, especially hydropower or dam projects, is highly desirable.
• Proven experience on project‑finance transactions complying with international E&S standards (IFC Performance Standards).
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently, drive continuous improvements and collaborate in multidisciplinary, multicultural teams.
