About the role
PATH’s Malaria Control and Elimination Partnership in Africa (MACEPA) is seeking a Regional Malaria Director for Southern and East Africa. The role provides technical expertise and management in data quality, surveillance system strengthening, and community case management, while leading surveillance and monitoring activities across the PATH MNTDs division.
Key responsibilities
- Collaborate with country leads and regional/global technical staff in Zambia, Ethiopia, Malawi, Nigeria and other geographies to develop and implement evidence‑based strategies for data quality, surveillance, community case management, data analytics, and M&E.
- Support the development of annual country and global work plans and learning agendas, assist country teams in effective implementation, and provide timely review and feedback.
- Assess progress against donor commitments, identify program bottlenecks, devise solutions, and keep teams updated on results.
- Provide day‑to‑day management of MACEPA country leads, facilitate partner engagement, and ensure high‑quality deliverables such as strategic plans, SOPs, presentations, and reports.
- Develop a cross‑malaria portfolio surveillance and monitoring learning agenda, lead the working group, and promote knowledge‑sharing across global, regional, and country teams.
- Represent PATH at conferences, manage relationships with regional and international bodies, and contribute technical assistance to new concepts, proposals, and awards.
Required profile
- Advanced degree in Public Health, Medicine, or a related field.
- Minimum 8 years of progressive leadership in public‑health program design or delivery, preferably in developing‑country settings.
- At least 5 years of in‑country experience leading or implementing malaria programs in East/Southern Africa.
- Strong people‑management skills with experience overseeing multiple country sites.
- Proven ability to work with Ministries of Health, donors (e.g., USAID, BMGF, UNITAID) and NGOs to build consensus and manage implementation.
- Fluency in English; French or Portuguese preferred; willingness to travel up to 30 % internationally.
