Machine Specialist

About the role

We are looking for a Machine Specialist to maintain, repair and optimise the E&F plant and associated equipment in our brewery. The role ensures plant availability and product quality while minimising cost and adhering to safety and environmental standards.

Key responsibilities

• Comply with VPO safety, health and environmental policies, procedures and legislation.
• Maintain safety and housekeeping standards across the plant.
• Locate plant, equipment, spares and relevant documentation or systems.
• Plan, prepare and execute maintenance jobs, including repairs and preventive maintenance.
• Operate workshop and utilities equipment, including start‑up and shutdown procedures.
• Optimise resource usage and support process‑quality improvement initiatives.
• Facilitate team problem‑solving, monitor trends and initiate corrective actions.
• Perform running schedules, conduct safety inspections and audit maintenance practices.
• Communicate effectively within the team and contribute to self and team development.

Required profile

• NTC / N5 Technikon qualification or equivalent trade test in Electrical, Mechanical or Millwright.
• Ammonia CAT A & B certification.
• 3–5 years of experience in a utilities brewery production environment.
• 1–3 years of technical mechanical/electrical experience in a leadership capacity within FMCG.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving and conceptual skills.
• Ability to handle people and manage teams.
