Resettlement GIS and Data Technician

About the role

The Resettlement GIS and Data Technician supports the Socio‑economic Development (SED) team in managing and analysing geospatial data related to resettlement projects in the oil & gas sector. The role combines field data collection, quality control, and spatial analysis to ensure accurate and reliable information for compensation and project monitoring.

Key responsibilities

• Execute and oversee field collection of terrestrial and fisheries resettlement data, ensuring compliance with business protocols.
• Perform regular inspections of third‑party data collection activities and verify completeness of survey forms, photos, and asset records.
• Conduct quality control and assurance on all data, including checks on asset summaries, household agreements, and proof of payments.
• Maintain and back up the project’s data repository; act as custodian of physical and digital data archives.
• Develop and enforce data collection protocols to guarantee accuracy and legitimacy.
• Manage GIS equipment (GPS units, plotters, printers, cameras) used for data capture and processing.
• Perform spatial analyses and produce maps, progress reports, and ad‑hoc information for the resettlement team.
• Provide training on data mobilisation and support the team during project execution.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Geography, GIS, Data Management or a related field.
• Minimum five years of experience in social geospatial data management and analysis.
• Experience with fisher and vessel registration and working with fishing communities.
• Understanding of compensation processes linked to resettlement.
• Fluency in Portuguese and English (written and spoken).
• Mozambican nationality or local residence is an advantage.
