Counter Poaching Unit Assistant Coordinator

About the role

The Assistant Counter Poaching Coordinator supports the Counter Poaching Unit (CPU) team, the head ranger and regional rangers at Limpopo National Park. Reporting to the CPU Coordinator, the role ensures day‑to‑day effectiveness of anti‑poaching and security operations in a remote, tented environment.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the CPU Coordinator with daily counter‑poaching and security activities in Limpopo National Park.
• Manage and control assets, equipment and operational resources.
• Provide capacity‑building, training and mentorship for ranger deployments.
• Oversee operational requirements, including radio operators and control‑room personnel.
• Support financial oversight, budgeting, cash‑flow and incentive schemes for field rangers.
• Contribute to quality‑assurance processes for patrols, firearm handling, air support and K9 operations.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years experience in counter‑poaching or wildlife security operations.
• Strong leadership, self‑discipline and ability to work remotely in tented accommodation.
• Physical fitness to perform field ranger duties and extended periods in isolated environments.
• Experience with off‑road driving, 4×4 recovery and basic vehicle maintenance.
• Willingness to learn Portuguese and/or Shangaan; own vehicle advantageous.
• Non‑certified fixed‑wing aircraft pilot licence or willingness to obtain one.
