Domestic Payments Officer

About the role

Absa is hiring a Domestic Payments Officer in Torres Rani. The role covers the management and monitoring of transactions and payments, making sure that every instruction received meets processing requirements through data, account, mandate, signature and identification checks. It also includes registering and submitting instructions, handling rejected payments, tracking RTGS and ACH payments, validating cheque images, supporting Front and Middle Office teams during implementations and producing monthly statistical reports.

Key responsibilities

• Manage milestones and perform fit-for-processing checks on applications received from branches, ensuring they meet the required standards for Absa's reporting models
• Verify account numbers in the system against mandates and credentials, and verify the authenticity of IDs and credentials based on authorised signatures
• Enter details in ADEC and submit them for approval
• Process rejected payments and confirm whether they can be processed again
• Check processed payments in RTGS or ACH and analyse their volume and value
• Validate the reason for outstanding payments, contact the responsible area for remediation, and carry out root-cause analysis and remediation plans for outstanding items
• Match amounts on cheque images with the cheque files received
• Monitor salary payments and process rejections back to customer accounts
• Support Front and Middle Office teams during implementations
• Prepare monthly statistical reports to support management and operational control

Required profile

• Education, Further Education and Training Certificate (FETC) in Business, Commerce and Management Studies (required)
