Health & Safety Officer

About the role

The Health & Safety Officer will promote and maintain a safe and healthy working environment across SGS Mozambique’s branches. Reporting to the Health and Safety Country Coordinator, the role ensures compliance with legislation, company policies and best practices.

Key responsibilities

• Report health, safety, quality and environmental incidents and conduct on‑site investigations.
• Carry out workplace observations, inspections, risk assessments and job hazard analyses.
• Maintain HSQE records, permits and documentation, and manage the inventory of PPE.
• Facilitate employee inductions, training sessions, toolbox talks and safety awareness campaigns.
• Support emergency response planning, drills and the coordination of contractor and visitor safety.

Required profile

• Degree in Health, Safety and Environment, Chemistry or a related field.
• Minimum 2 years experience in quality assurance, health‑safety‑environment management and internal auditing.
• Proficiency in Portuguese and English is an advantage.
• Strong planning, organizational and communication skills.

Required skills

• Knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards.
• Computer literacy with MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
