About the role
We are looking for an Operations Lead to oversee Alistair Group’s daily activities across Mozambique. The role will manage multiple sites, ensure safe and efficient freight and crane operations, and act as the primary interface with clients and authorities.
Key responsibilities
- Oversee all operational sites in Mozambique (Pemba, Afungi, Temane, Beira, etc.) ensuring smooth daily performance.
- Coordinate road freight planning with the fleet manager to guarantee safe, on‑time cargo delivery.
- Manage crane operations, ensuring safety and efficiency.
- Ensure all operational paperwork and permits are completed before work commences.
- Track invoicing, raise and log invoices to the finance department.
- Conduct audits of worksites, produce reports and implement corrective actions.
- Liaise with workshop for equipment maintenance and minimise turnaround time.
- Maintain clean, compliant yards and offices across all locations.
- Dispatch and allocate trucks and equipment to optimise utilisation.
- Perform SDJ checks, monitor schedules and keep operations on track.
- Lead local procurement, including truck/equipment hire, subcontractor engagement and administrative purchases.
- Provide operational support to Sales Administration, Accounts Payable and Finance teams.
- Identify risks, resolve issues promptly and ensure business continuity.
- Serve as day‑to‑day client interface, prepare quotations and business proposals.
- Build and maintain relationships with public authorities, suppliers and key stakeholders.
- Contribute to business development by identifying commercial opportunities and growth projects.
- Assist in recruiting, developing and mentoring the Mozambique team and implement best practices from other Alistair locations.
Required profile
- 7–10+ years of experience in logistics, material handling, transport, supply chain or operations management.
- Proven track record of managing multi‑site operations in a challenging environment.
- Strong knowledge of freight, crane and yard operations.
- Experience in procurement, invoicing and financial administration support.
- Ability to work with public authorities and maintain compliance.
- Demonstrated leadership and team development skills.
