Senior Epidemiologist – Surveillance & Field Epidemiology Training (Mozambique)

About the role

AFENET is seeking a Senior Epidemiologist to support real‑time disease surveillance and outbreak response in Mozambique through the Field Epidemiology Training Program (FETP). The consultant will work closely with national health institutions to strengthen public‑health systems and mentor FETP residents.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical guidance for real‑time disease surveillance activities.
• Lead and coordinate outbreak investigations and response actions.
• Develop and deliver training modules for FETP residents.
• Collaborate with the Ministry of Health and other stakeholders to improve surveillance data quality.
• Prepare analytical reports and recommendations for public‑health decision‑makers.

Required profile

• Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in Epidemiology, Public Health, or a related field.
• Several years of experience in disease surveillance and outbreak response, preferably in low‑resource settings.
• Proven ability to mentor and train health professionals.
• Strong communication skills in English.
