Senior Protection Officer – MHPSS

About the role

The International Rescue Committee is seeking a Senior Protection Officer to lead Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) programming in emergency contexts. This senior position will guide the design, adaptation, and delivery of MHPSS interventions, ensuring they align with IRC standards and international guidelines.

Key responsibilities

• Design, adapt, and implement MHPSS interventions, including structured group activities and individual support.
• Ensure a layered MHPSS approach with community‑based PSS, non‑specialized interventions, and referral pathways for specialized services.
• Integrate MHPSS across Child Protection and GBV programming using survivor‑centered approaches.
• Develop tools, guidance, and SOPs for MHPSS service delivery and oversee their use.
• Provide technical supervision to MHPSS officers, psychologists, and frontline staff.
• Support staff in case conceptualization, intervention planning, and risk management for complex cases.
• Monitor participation, engagement, and outcomes to improve program quality.

Required profile

• Extensive experience designing and delivering MHPSS interventions in humanitarian settings.
• Proven ability to integrate MHPSS with child protection and GBV programs.
• Strong supervisory and mentorship skills for multidisciplinary teams.
• Experience adapting programs to high‑insecurity, low‑resource environments.
• Commitment to survivor‑centered, confidential, and ethical service delivery.
