About the role
The Economic Inclusion and Agribusiness Advisor will design and implement strategies to boost agricultural income and resilience for internally displaced persons and host communities in northern Mozambique. The role works closely with UNHCR, government agencies, NGOs and private sector partners.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct localized agricultural value‑chain analyses to identify profitable opportunities for IDPs and host communities.
- Facilitate coordination among government, NGOs and private sector to provide technical assistance on production, post‑harvest handling and quality control.
- Promote client‑smart agriculture and alternative livelihoods to reduce dependence on single crops.
- Serve as focal point for private‑sector engagement, negotiating fair out‑grower agreements and linking farmers to financing and market inputs.
- Support community‑based financing schemes such as Village Savings and Loan Associations and deliver financial‑literacy training.
- Ensure gender‑responsive and protection‑sensitive programming, especially for women, GBV survivors and sextortion victims.
- Guide and monitor grantees, local subsidies and consultants, including drafting terms of reference and contracts.
- Assist project staff with policy development, quality assurance and regulatory reforms affecting target groups.
Required profile
- At least 5 years of experience in economic inclusion, agribusiness or livelihood programming.
- Proven experience working with smallholder farmers and rural SMEs in displacement contexts.
- Minimum 2 years of programme implementation experience in northern Mozambique (Cabo Delgado or Nampula).
- Experience in private‑sector engagement, out‑grower or contract‑farming arrangements.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, monitor and evaluate livelihood activities and collect disaggregated data.
- Fluency in English and Portuguese; knowledge of local languages is an asset.
Required skills
- Strong command of MS Office.
- Ability to conduct value‑chain analysis and develop agribusiness strategies.
- Experience in financial‑literacy training and community‑based savings mechanisms.
- Competence in managing grants, contracts and partner relationships.
