Lifting Supervisor – LNG Project in Mozambique

About the role

The Lifting Supervisor will lead lifting operations for the Mozambique LNG project in Afungi, ensuring all activities are carried out safely and in line with approved lifting plans and method statements. The role involves coordinating crane operators, riggers and banksmen during construction, vessel discharge and cargo‑handling tasks, on a 75‑day on / 21‑day off rotation.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise lifting operations according to approved plans, risk assessments and method statements.
• Conduct pre‑lift briefings and toolbox talks in Portuguese and English, confirming responsibilities and emergency procedures.
• Verify permits, load weight, centre of gravity, lifting points, crane configuration and operating radius before each lift.
• Ensure crane positioning, ground conditions and outrigger arrangements are safe, escalating concerns as needed.
• Check that cranes and lifting accessories have valid inspection records and sufficient rated capacity.
• Maintain exclusion zones, safe access routes and appropriate load landing areas.
• Monitor weather, visibility and surrounding activities, stopping work when conditions become unsafe.
• Report incidents, near‑misses and equipment defects, and support investigations.

Required profile

• Fluent in Portuguese and English, spoken and written.
• Previous experience as a Lifting Supervisor on construction sites, with direct supervision of crane operations and lifting crews.
• Recognised lifting supervisor qualification or certification acceptable to the project.
• Strong leadership, ability to challenge unsafe practices and exercise stop‑work authority.
• Willingness to work onsite in Afungi on the specified rotation, including day or night shifts.
