About the role
SGS Mozambique, a leading testing, inspection and certification company, is seeking Marine Surveyors to conduct draft surveys and cargo weight assessments on vessels operating in various ports across Mozambique.
Key responsibilities
- Liaise with agents, vessel masters and crew to arrange and perform draft surveys.
- Read draft marks, measure water displacement and sample water density to determine cargo weight.
- Calculate deductible weights by measuring ballast, fuel, fresh water and bunker quantities.
- Interpret vessel documents, apply international guidelines and produce accurate draft survey reports.
- Issue letters of protest or reserve when compliance issues are identified and submit reports to clients.
Required profile
- University degree in Marine or Port Management.
- Ability to work independently with superior organisational and communication skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects in a fast‑paced environment.
- Willingness to work extended hours and shift work as required.
Required skills
- Marine surveying and draft survey techniques.
- Measurement of water displacement and ballast tank sounding.
- Sampling and testing of sea or dock water density.
