About the role
SGS Mozambique is seeking a Marine Surveyor based in Cidade de Pemba to conduct draft surveys and other marine services in line with SGS SOPs and international regulations. The role reports to the Operations Coordinator and involves close interaction with vessel masters, agents, and clients.
Key responsibilities
- Liaise with agents and vessel masters to arrange and perform draft surveys, including reading draft marks and inspecting ballast, fresh water, and bunker tanks.
- Measure water displacement before and after loading, sample and test sea or dock water density, and calculate cargo weight using hydrostatic tables and international guidelines.
- Prepare and verify draft survey certificates, issue letters or protests when compliance issues arise, and submit detailed reports to clients.
- Maintain measurement equipment, ensure calibration, and support the QMS within the department.
Required profile
- Degree in Maritime Navigation or related field.
- Minimum 3 years of experience conducting marine surveys.
- Proficiency in English (read, speak, write) and a valid driver’s license.
