Operations Manager - Gilé National Park

About the role

The François Sommer Foundation is looking for an experienced Operations Manager to support the Gilé National Park (PNAG) in Central Mozambique. The post provides technical, administrative and programme implementation support to a large project covering conservation, restoration and development activities, working closely with the Park Warden. It is based on site at the PNAG headquarters in Musseia, with frequent travel to Maputo, and lasts one year, renewable under the 2026-2035 collaborative agreement.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Park Warden and department heads in implementing projects funded by the Foundation and other donors, and maintain weekly contact with the Project Coordinator in Maputo and the Foundation in Paris
• Support the Warden in developing work plans and improve the performance and efficiency of field activities
• Help plan, implement, monitor and report on activities in infrastructure and logistics, law enforcement, community development, conservation, human resources, administration and finance
• Support staff recruitment, capacity building and mentoring, and ensure fair treatment of the 120 staff members
• Support the finance manual procedures and the Project Implementation Unit in preparing reports for ANAC and donors

Required profile

• At least 10 years of proven experience in large-scale programme management and administration on the field
• Senior staff management experience across infrastructure, conservation and law enforcement
• Tertiary education in protected areas administration, wildlife management, conservation, agricultural or forest sciences
• Excellent communication and organisational skills, and good leadership and people management skills
