Operations Supervisor

About the role

The Operations Supervisor will oversee daily operational activities for the Agriculture, Minerals, and Oil & Gas & Chemicals (OGC) sectors at SGS's Nacala branch. Reporting to the Branch Coordinator, the role ensures client instructions are executed to SGS technical standards and maintains smooth communication with warehouses, terminals and operational facilities.

Key responsibilities

• Receive inspection nominations and work instructions, ensuring proper execution across AGRI, Minerals and OGC sectors.
• Supervise day‑to‑day operational activities, approve internal operational reports and recommend efficiency improvements.
• Maintain the Quality Management System, coordinate calibration programs and ensure proper documentation from service request to invoicing.
• Monitor customer complaints, act as primary interface with clients and support the Branch Manager in performance monitoring.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of operations experience in Minerals, Oil & Gas, Chemicals or AGRI commodities.
• Degree in Agronomic Engineering, Port Management, Geology, Mining, Chemistry or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Proficiency in Portuguese and English is an advantage, with strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Flexible, self‑motivated and able to plan and organise records effectively.

Required skills

• Knowledge of ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards.
• Experience with inspection field services and health & safety requirements.
• Ability to prepare and review operational standards, procedures and work instructions.
