Project Director – Marine Construction

About the role

The Project Director leads the successful delivery of large‑scale marine construction projects, holding full accountability for project P&L, execution strategy, and delivery performance. The role ensures projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate all project activities to meet client requirements, contract terms, and time‑cost parameters.
• Coach and mentor project managers and multidisciplinary teams.
• Establish organisational charts and processes to ensure effective support functions.
• Validate contractual, technical, financial and legal options in collaboration with the legal department.
• Manage contractual and financial follow‑up, budget control and approve all project engagements.
• Negotiate with contractors, suppliers and subcontractors throughout the project life‑cycle and oversee tenders and contracts.
• Implement project budgets, allocate resources, enforce standards and conduct technical reviews.

Required profile

• 15‑20 years of experience in marine construction, preferably with Tier 1 marine contractors.
• Recent experience as a Project Director or Senior Project Manager on complex marine works such as breakwaters, dredging, reclamation or port infrastructure.
• Proven people‑management and team‑leadership skills with strong consensus‑building abilities.
• Advanced understanding of contract management and process organisation.
• Fluent English; additional European language (French or Portuguese) is an asset.
• Willingness to work on a 6‑week on‑site/6‑week off‑site rotational schedule and to relocate as required.
