About the role

The company is seeking a Project HSE Coordinator for a six‑month fixed‑term assignment within a petroleum terminal. The role will drive health, safety, security and environmental (HSSE) performance across all project activities, ensuring compliance with legislation, company standards and the Impala Golden Rules of Safety.

Key responsibilities

  • Implement and monitor compliance with the project HSE plan, procedures and standards.
  • Enforce stop‑work authority and ensure all activities meet legal and company requirements.
  • Conduct regular site inspections, audits and safety observations to identify hazards.
  • Coordinate corrective and preventive actions from inspections, audits and incident investigations.
  • Develop and communicate risk assessments and method statements before work starts.
  • Monitor high‑risk activities such as working at heights, confined‑space entry, lifting, hot work, excavation and electrical isolations/LOTO.
  • Report, record and investigate incidents, near‑misses, unsafe acts and conditions; participate in root‑cause investigations.
  • Maintain incident statistics and prepare HSE performance reports.
  • Deliver HSE inductions, toolbox talks and safety meetings for employees, contractors and visitors.
  • Coordinate and monitor the Permit to Work (PTW) system, verifying permits and control measures.
  • Ensure contractors comply with project HSE requirements and approved procedures.
  • Monitor environmental compliance, waste management and spill‑prevention initiatives.
  • Participate in emergency response planning, drills and crisis support.
  • Maintain HSE records, registers, inspection reports and training documentation; track closure of findings.

Required profile

  • Diploma in Safety Management or equivalent training.
  • Minimum 3 years HSE experience in the oil industry or a comparable sector.
  • Knowledge of legal basics and petroleum terminal operations.
  • Professional HSE or environmental qualifications (e.g., IOSH, NEBOSH, SAMTRAC, ISO Implementer, Internal Auditor or Lead Auditor).
  • Ability to plan, work independently and collaborate with senior management and third‑party personnel.
