Stevedore Foreman – LNG Project in Mozambique

About the role

The Stevedore Foreman will lead stevedoring teams on the Mozambique LNG project, overseeing vessel loading, discharge and quayside cargo handling. Reporting to the Stevedoring Superintendent, the role ensures safe, efficient operations in line with approved work plans and project requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise daily stevedoring activities, allocate duties and resources according to shift plans.
• Conduct pre‑shift briefings and toolbox talks in Portuguese and English, communicating tasks, hazards and controls.
• Coordinate vessel and quayside operations with vessel representatives, lifting teams, equipment operators and cargo tally personnel.
• Verify work areas, access routes and cargo landing zones are prepared before operations commence.
• Ensure cargo handling follows approved method statements, risk assessments and lifting plans.
• Monitor cargo identification, condition, tallying and handover, reporting any damage or discrepancies.
• Maintain shift records covering cargo handled, personnel, equipment deployed, delays, incidents and outstanding work.

Required profile

• Fluent in Portuguese and English, both spoken and written.
• Proven experience supervising stevedoring or port cargo‑handling teams, including vessel loading and discharge.
• Practical knowledge of rigging, lifting accessories, signalling, cargo securing and safe cargo‑handling practices.
• Ability to interpret cargo lists, loading/discharge plans and operational instructions.
• Willingness to work on‑site in Afungi on a 75‑day on / 21‑day off rotation, including day or night shifts.
