Technical Contract Engineer - Maputo Resident

About the role

A major international Oil & Gas project is looking for a Senior Contract Engineer to support all contractual and commercial activities across the project lifecycle, from tendering and contract award to execution, claims management and close-out. The engineer works closely with Project Engineers, Procurement teams, Legal departments and key stakeholders to secure contractual compliance, mitigate commercial risks and ensure successful project delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Define and implement contracting and procurement strategies
• Manage tendering from CFT package preparation through bid evaluation and recommendation to award
• Negotiate commercially and contractually with suppliers and subcontractors
• Identify and mitigate contractual and commercial risks
• Support Project Engineers during contract execution and manage amendments, change orders and contractor performance
• Ensure compliance with contractual obligations and maintain contract documentation
• Coordinate contract close-out and maintain contract registers
• Evaluate and manage contractor claims, disputes and deviations, and resolve contractual issues with Legal, Finance and Insurance teams
• Provide commercial recommendations to protect project and company interests

Required profile

• Master's degree in Engineering, Business, Contract Management or a related discipline
• Minimum 10 years of experience in Contract Engineering, Contract Management or Procurement in Oil & Gas, Energy or EPC sectors
• Proven experience managing high-value contracts and complex international projects
• Experience in international and multicultural environments
• Fluent English is mandatory
