Commercial Manager - Construction Project, Mozambique

About the role

A major construction project in Mozambique needs an experienced Commercial Manager to take overall responsibility for the Contracts and Commercial department. The role represents the company at the highest level of client engagement and dispute resolution, reporting directly to the Project Director and leading a team including a Contracts Manager, QS Manager, Senior QS and Contract Administrator.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage all contracts, commercial, procurement and cost control functions for the project
• Develop and implement commercial and contractual strategies in line with the Commercial and Procurement PMPs
• Ensure compliance with main contract and subcontract agreements
• Oversee claims, variations, extensions of time and dispute resolution
• Approve budgets, forecasts, cost reports and corrective strategies
• Negotiate commercially and contractually, and handle disputes and arbitration
• Identify, manage and mitigate commercial risks and opportunities
• Lead, mentor and manage the performance of Contracts and Commercial staff

Required profile

• BSc in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Civil Engineering or a related discipline
• MSc in a similar field
• MRICS / FRICS or equivalent accreditation
• 20+ years of relevant construction experience, including 5+ years as a QS Manager or Contract Manager
• Demonstrated dispute resolution and arbitration experience
• Proven leadership and client-facing experience

Required skills

• Strong contractual and commercial expertise with FIDIC, EPC and D&B contract formats
• Ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary Project Management Team
