Laboratory Supervisor

About the role

An experienced Laboratory Supervisor is needed to lead the day‑to‑day operations of a busy gold assay laboratory. The role involves overseeing laboratory performance, quality assurance, safety, equipment management and team leadership to ensure accurate analytical testing in line with ISO/IEC 17025 standards.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise daily operations of the gold assay laboratory.
• Lead, mentor, train and manage laboratory personnel.
• Ensure compliance with QA/QC procedures and ISO/IEC 17025 standards.
• Manage productivity, quality and turnaround times.
• Oversee equipment calibration, maintenance and servicing.
• Supervise gold assay analysis on mining and metallurgical samples.
• Review analytical results and investigate discrepancies.
• Maintain laboratory quality systems and drive continuous improvement.
• Prepare laboratory reports and keep accurate records.
• Ensure health, safety and environmental compliance.
• Coordinate shift rosters and optimise laboratory resources.

Required profile

• Grade 12 (or equivalent) and a National Diploma in Analytical Chemistry or higher.
• Minimum three years’ experience in a gold assay laboratory, with supervisory experience preferred.
• Proven experience using analytical instruments such as Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS) and laboratory balances.
• Working knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025 quality management systems.
• Computer literate – proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
