Access to Finance Specialist – Sustainable Livelihoods Project

About the role

The Access to Finance Specialist will support USAID/BHA’s Market‑Based Approaches for Sustainable Livelihoods activity in Cabo Delgado, Mozambique. The role focuses on identifying financing opportunities and delivering business and financial literacy training of trainers to help IDP and returnee households transition from food assistance to sustainable livelihoods.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and facilitate medium‑to‑long‑term access to finance for Economy Recovery and Market Systems (ERMS) beneficiaries.
• Design and deliver training‑of‑trainers (ToTs) on business skills and financial literacy.
• Collaborate with formal and informal financial institutions to uncover barriers and develop inclusive outreach strategies for internally displaced persons.
• Build relationships with banks and micro‑finance entities to create tailored financial products for target groups.
• Strengthen inclusive finance mechanisms such as village savings and loan associations (VSLAs) that serve smallholder farmers, IDPs, and other vulnerable populations.
• Perform any additional tasks assigned by the Deputy Team Lead.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in economics, business, finance, international development or a related field.
• Minimum five years of experience in banking or financial services; experience in agricultural value‑chain finance is a plus.
• Prior work on donor‑funded programs preferred.
• Mozambican nationality or permanent residency is required.
• Fluent written and spoken English; Portuguese proficiency preferred, as well as local languages (e.g., Makua‑Lomwe, Tsonga, Shona).
