Agricultural Extension Specialist

About the role

Palladium is seeking an Agricultural Extension Specialist to lead training and technical support for locally‑based extension officers and farming households displaced by conflict in Cabo Delgado, Mozambique. The role supports USAID/BHA’s Market‑Based Approaches for Sustainable Livelihoods project, aiming to transition IDPs and returnees from food assistance to productive agriculture.

Key responsibilities

• Design, deliver and evaluate training programs for a network of local extension officers, ensuring active participation of community and government stakeholders.
• Identify training gaps and develop capacity‑building workshops, consultative meetings and field‑based activities for staff and target communities.
• Provide hands‑on technical assistance to IDP and returnee farming households, promoting the adoption of market‑based agricultural technologies and inputs.
• Facilitate the distribution of agricultural inputs and extension services through private‑sector partnerships.
• Monitor field activities, document successes, challenges and lessons learned, and feed insights back into project methodologies and deliverables.
• Perform any additional tasks assigned by the Deputy Team Lead.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, agronomy, agricultural extension or a related field.
• Minimum 7 years of experience designing, managing and monitoring community‑level agricultural extension programs.
• Proven experience conducting trainings, workshops, consultations and needs assessments.
• Strong ability to engage diverse community groups and understand local dynamics.
