Collections Clerk

About the role

The Collections Clerk supports billing operations and third‑party payer interactions within a medical practice. The role involves communicating with patients and insurers, managing delinquent accounts, and helping reduce accounts‑receivable days.

Key responsibilities

• Identify delinquent accounts, assess aging periods and payment sources, and initiate collection actions such as phone outreach and claim resubmission.
• Evaluate patients’ financial status and set up contract payment plans.
• Stay current on Medicare, Medicaid and other third‑party payer regulations and ensure documentation is up‑to‑date.
• Assist in reducing days in A/R and meet assigned collection targets.
• Handle overflow patient calls and perform other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or equivalent; 2 years of medical collections experience preferred.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
• Ability to work under frequent interruptions and re‑prioritize tasks.

• Medical practice billing software.
• Windows‑based computer systems and Microsoft Office.
• CPT and ICD‑10 coding knowledge.
• Electronic billing processes.
• Medical terminology.
