Country Director – Pemba, Mozambique

About the role

Solidarités International is seeking a senior leader to serve as Country Director for its operations in northern Mozambique. Based in Pemba, the Director will be the official representative of the organization, ensuring strategic alignment with headquarters and leading a multi‑sector humanitarian response.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and propose the country strategy and ensure its implementation once approved.
• Coordinate and supervise all program areas (WASH, Shelter/NFI, Food Security, Rapid Response) across Pemba, Mueda and Mocímboa da Praia.
• Maintain direct liaison with SI headquarters, donors and local authorities.
• Oversee resource allocation, budgeting and financial compliance for a mission of 8‑9 expatriates and local staff.
• Lead recruitment, performance management and capacity building of the mission team.
• Ensure compliance with donor requirements and reporting standards.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in senior management within humanitarian or development contexts.
• Proven track record of leading multi‑sector programmes in conflict‑affected or disaster‑prone settings.
• Strong understanding of WASH, shelter and food security interventions.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills with donors, government and partners.
• Fluency in English; knowledge of Portuguese or French is an asset.
