Deputy Security Manager – Unmanned Aerial System & Airspace

About the role

The Deputy Security Manager will lead airspace security for an oil & gas project in Afungi, Mozambique. The role combines management of unmanned aerial systems (UAS) and counter‑UAS (C‑UAS) technologies to protect project airspace.

Key responsibilities

• Manage project airspace security, including UAS and C‑UAS systems.
• Plan and supervise security flight missions with aviation authorities and service providers.
• Maintain continuous Airspace Situational Awareness and ensure compliance with SOPs, VPSHR and regulations.
• Provide daily analysis and reports on aerial, onshore and offshore activity.
• Supervise drone and counter‑drone teams, ensuring qualification, discipline and standards.
• Implement HSE procedures for safe UAS/C‑UAS operations.
• Coordinate C‑UAS technologies (radar, RF, jamming, interception) with Area 4.
• Oversee flight authorizations, No‑Fly Zones and aerial corridors.
• Liaise with civil and military aviation authorities and report incidents.
• Maintain readiness of UAS, radars, RF systems and related equipment.
• Support tenders, documentation, cost estimates and emergency availability.

Required profile

• Proven experience in air operations management, UAS or C‑UAS (military, police, aviation or industrial security).
• Strong understanding of drone and counter‑drone tactics and technologies.
• Knowledge of UAS regulations (ICAO guidance and local aviation rules).
• Solid background in airspace security risk assessment.
• Experience coordinating with military or security forces.
• Fluent English; Portuguese or Swahili an asset.
• Strong computer skills with situational‑awareness, reporting and mapping tools.
• No criminal record, valid driver’s licence and passport.
