Head of Programmes

About the role

WaterAid Mozambique is seeking a strategic leader to head its programme portfolio. The Head of Programmes will drive the design, implementation and quality assurance of climate‑resilient water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) initiatives, ensuring alignment with the Country Programme Strategy (2023‑2028) and global standards.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic direction for the Country Programme, developing resource plans that maximise impact.
• Lead the design and execution of high‑quality WASH programmes, integrating systems‑strengthening, gender‑transformative and behavioural‑centred approaches.
• Oversee programme monitoring, evaluation and reporting (PMER) to meet donor guidelines and WaterAid standards.
• Ensure grants compliance, partner support and quality assurance across all projects.
• Represent WaterAid’s brand while addressing Mozambique‑specific development challenges.

Required profile

• Proven experience in leading large‑scale WASH or public‑health programmes.
• Strong understanding of climate‑resilient water and sanitation solutions.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multi‑partner collaborations and donor relationships.
• Excellent governance and decision‑making skills.

Required skills

• Strategic programme planning and resource allocation.
• Programme monitoring, evaluation and reporting (PMER) methodologies.
• Grants management and compliance.
• Knowledge of gender‑transformative WASH and behavioural change approaches.
