Internship – Budget Transparency & Community Engagement

About the role

UNICEF Mozambique is looking for two interns to support budget transparency, school accountability and community engagement in the provinces of Nampula and Zambezia. Working under the supervision of the Social Policy Officer, the interns will gain hands‑on experience in public financial management and education service delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in creating citizen‑friendly versions of planning and budgeting documents to improve public understanding of education financing.
• Support the design of simplified communication materials that explain resources allocated to schools and expected results.
• Develop public information templates, school transparency boards and disclosure tools for use by schools and local authorities.
• Document good practices and lessons learned on budget transparency initiatives.
• Help develop and test school‑level accountability and transparency tools, and assess how schools communicate resource information.
• Collect and analyse data on transparency practices adopted by schools and School Councils.
• Identify opportunities to strengthen public disclosure and accountability mechanisms at school level.
• Support engagement with School Councils, Parent Associations and community representatives, and document community perspectives.

Required profile

• Enrolled in a university programme related to public policy, finance, education, social sciences or a related field.
• Motivated to work under the guidance of a Social Policy Officer on a structured learning assignment.
