Lifting Supervisor – LNG Project in Mozambique

About the role

The Lifting Supervisor will lead lifting operations for the Mozambique LNG project, ensuring all activities are carried out safely and in line with approved plans. The role follows a 75‑day on / 21‑day off rotation on site at Afungi, Cabo Delgado.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise lifting operations according to approved lifting plans, risk assessments and method statements.
• Conduct pre‑lift briefings and toolbox talks in Portuguese and English, defining responsibilities and emergency procedures.
• Verify permits, load weight, centre of gravity, lifting points, crane configuration and operating radius before each lift.
• Check crane positioning, ground conditions and outrigger arrangements, escalating concerns to the lifting authority.
• Ensure cranes and accessories have valid inspection records, proper identification and sufficient rated capacity.
• Maintain exclusion zones, safe access routes and appropriate load landing areas.
• Monitor weather, visibility and surrounding activities, stopping work when conditions become unsafe.
• Report incidents, near‑misses and equipment defects, and support investigations and corrective actions.

Required profile

• Fluent in Portuguese and English, both spoken and written.
• Proven experience as a Lifting Supervisor on construction sites, supervising crane operations and lifting crews.
• Recognised lifting supervisor qualification or certification acceptable to the project.
• Willingness to work on‑site in Afungi on a 75‑day on / 21‑day off rotation, including day or night shifts.
• Previous oil & gas or LNG project experience is an advantage.
• First‑aid or emergency response training is desirable.

Required skills

• Practical knowledge of crane operations, rigging methods and lifting accessories.
• Load control and signalling expertise.
• Ability to interpret lifting plans, crane load charts, risk assessments and method statements.
• Experience verifying equipment certification and personnel competency records.
• Strong leadership with the authority to stop work when unsafe.
