Principal Sustainability Specialist

About the role

The Principal Sustainability Specialist interprets business issues and recommends best practices, solving complex sustainability challenges with minimal guidance. This senior position leads functional teams, advises on social performance, and drives sustainability initiatives across the organization.

Key responsibilities

• Work strategically with HR, Finance and business units to lead social impact assessments and mitigation plans.
• Advise internal stakeholders on best practices in social performance and sustainability.
• Lead cross‑functional workshops, represent McDermott at external events, and develop the company’s sustainability innovation roadmap.
• Deliver infrastructure sustainability ratings, investigate emerging issues, and implement solutions.
• Manage client accounts, engage with project funders, affected communities and other stakeholders.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Business Administration or related field; Master’s preferred.
• 8+ years experience in corporate social responsibility or sustainability within a multinational organization.
• 3+ years experience in a leadership role.
• Strong analytical, project management and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently, influence stakeholders and develop multidisciplinary solutions.
