Project Officer – Cabo Delgado Food Systems Strengthening Programme

About the role

GAIN is looking for a Project Officer to support the implementation of the Cabo Delgado Food Systems Strengthening Programme (CDFSS). Based in Pemba, the role involves coordinating field activities, engaging with local partners, and ensuring that project outputs meet quality and timeline expectations.

Key responsibilities

• Implement assigned CDFSS activities in line with work plans and results frameworks.
• Conduct regular field visits to monitor progress, verify output quality, and report risks and solutions.
• Provide technical guidance to vendors, women entrepreneurs, MSMEs, and cooperative members; facilitate trainings and market activation events.
• Monitor installation and use of cold‑chain, solar, irrigation, and other programme‑supported equipment.
• Maintain relationships with district and provincial authorities, cooperatives, vendor associations, and community groups.
• Support development and monitoring of grant agreements, conduct follow‑up visits to verify progress and expenditures.
• Prepare technical specifications, procurement requests, and verify delivered assets.
• Draft activity reports, case studies, and evidence for donor reporting and evaluations.

Required profile

• Practical experience in food systems, market development, agricultural value chains, or enterprise development.
• Proven ability to coordinate field activities, engage beneficiaries, and facilitate training.
• Experience working with cooperatives, MSMEs, government institutions, NGOs, and private‑sector partners.
• Familiarity with donor‑funded projects and mobile data‑collection tools is an advantage.
