QA/QC Welding Specialist (Back-to-Back Role)

About the role
We are seeking a QA/QC Welding Specialist to join the Owner's quality team on a major LNG development project in Mozambique. The role is site‑based and rotational, providing direct oversight of welding and fabrication activities performed by EPC contractors and subcontractors.
Key responsibilities
- Review and comment on contractor welding quality plans, ITPs, WPS, PQR and WQR documents.
- Witness and verify welder qualification tests, ensuring only qualified personnel perform welding.
- Monitor implementation of approved Welding Procedure Specifications and compliance with welding parameters.
- Coordinate and oversee NDT activities (RT, UT, MT, PT) and review results against acceptance criteria.
- Verify traceability of welding consumables, materials and weld joints throughout fabrication and installation.
- Investigate welding non‑conformances, support resolution of NCRs, TQs and corrective actions.
- Prepare daily, weekly and monthly welding quality reports, including weld status, NDT progress and repair statistics.
- Promote safe welding practices and ensure compliance with HSE requirements and PTW systems.
Required profile
- Engineering degree or equivalent in Mechanical, Welding, Metallurgical or related discipline.
- Minimum 10 years welding QA/QC experience in Oil & Gas, LNG or large industrial construction.
- At least 5 years dedicated welding inspection on large‑scale EPC/EPCIC projects.
- Certified Welding Inspector (AWS CWI, CSWIP 3.1/3.2 or equivalent).
- Strong knowledge of ASME Section IX, AWS D1.1, ISO 9606, API 1104 and related standards.
