Senior Desalination Technician

About the role

The Senior Desalination Technician is responsible for monitoring and controlling the operation of evaporators, steam turbines, sea‑water pumps and related equipment to maximise potable water production while maintaining quality and energy efficiency.

Key responsibilities

• Continuously monitor operating parameters, record abnormal trends and alarms, and report them to the Desalination Supervisor.
• Identify plant faults, suggest corrective actions and support the supervisor in implementing solutions.
• Execute start‑up and shutdown procedures for evaporators according to operational guidelines.
• Maintain accurate HMI/control panel displays and ensure reliable information flow.
• Monitor chemical consumption, adjust dosing, and order chemicals while aiming for cost savings.
• Optimise energy usage by efficient operation of major equipment such as sea‑water pumps and boiler‑feed pumps.
• Prepare daily, weekly and monthly performance calculations for water production, power generation, chemical usage and equipment run‑hours.
• Apply standard operating and emergency procedures to ensure plant safety and reliability.

Required profile

• Higher Secondary School Certificate (or equivalent).
• Minimum 2 years of experience as a fully competent Senior Desalination Operator, including at least 1 year in a control‑room environment.
• Basic maintenance training and Permit‑to‑Work (PTW) system training.
• Proficient reading, writing and speaking skills in English.
• Ability to perform basic calculations and interpret single‑line diagrams.
