Sterile Processing Technician

About the role

The Sterile Processing Technician ensures that all medical and surgical instruments, linen, and equipment are decontaminated, inspected, assembled, and packaged to meet strict sterile standards. Working in a hospital environment, you will support operating rooms and other clinical areas by maintaining a reliable supply of sterile materials.

Key responsibilities

• Decontaminate, sterilize, assemble, and package instruments, linen, and equipment according to established procedures.
• Prepare and wrap trays for designated areas, ensuring correct item placement.
• Operate the barcode instrument tracking system to monitor inventory and usage.
• Disassemble, clean, test, and reassemble specialty instrumentation.
• Differentiate between single‑use and reusable items and handle each appropriately.
• Monitor biological and chemical wash solutions for quality and consistency.
• Sort mismatched sets, restock, label, and maintain inventory levels.
• Perform environmental maintenance and assist with equipment verification and requisition.
• Adhere to standard precautions and infection‑control policies.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• State licensure or certification as a Sterilization Technician where required.
• Ability to stand for long periods, lift/push/pull >50 lbs, and work in environments with radiation, chemicals, and bodily fluids.
