Technical Specialist – NBS Implementation Projects

About the role

South Pole is seeking a Technical Specialist to support the implementation and delivery of nature‑based solutions and sustainable technology projects across Mozambique. The role focuses on monitoring environmental impact programmes, managing project data, and training partners on digital monitoring platforms.

Key responsibilities

• Organise and coordinate monitoring activities for Carbonsink Mozambique’s environmental impact programmes, ensuring timely and high‑quality delivery.
• Manage and maintain project databases, including the cookstove projects database, and perform quality checks on monitoring data.
• Collect, organise and archive monitoring documentation, both paper‑based and digital.
• Support and train partners in data collection, use of digital platforms, and monitoring and evaluation of projects.
• Conduct field missions, surveys, community engagements and coordinate procurement and distribution of project inputs.
• Maintain regular contact with local authorities, community leaders and implementing partners.
• Prepare weekly, monthly and quarterly progress reports for the Manager, NBS, Climate Projects – Mozambique.

Required profile

• Degree in Environmental Sciences, Agronomy, Forestry, Natural Resource Management, Rural Development, Monitoring and Evaluation, Statistics or a related field.
• Proven experience in monitoring and data collection for environmental, climate or development projects in Mozambique.
• Fluent in Portuguese (written and spoken) with good working knowledge of English.
• Highly organised, able to manage several priorities and work independently in the field.
• Willingness to travel frequently to project sites; a valid driving licence is an advantage.

Required skills

• Strong data management skills, including working with databases and survey data.
• Proficiency in Excel or similar spreadsheet tools.
• Experience using digital data collection tools and mobile monitoring platforms.
