Unit Secretary / Registration Clerk

About the role

The Unit Secretary/Registration Clerk provides front‑line administrative support in a hospital unit, ensuring smooth patient flow and accurate record‑keeping. The role combines reception duties with clerical processing of admissions, discharges and diagnostic orders.

Key responsibilities

• Greet patients, families and visitors, answer phone calls and direct inquiries.
• Process admissions, discharges and transfers according to nursing procedures.
• Prepare and submit requisitions for diagnostic and therapeutic services.
• Maintain unit supply inventory at prescribed par levels.
• Enter and verify patient charges, compile statistical data and generate management reports.
• Review patient forms for completeness, collect deposits or co‑pays and create estimates in the Accureg system.
• Identify and forward patient or visitor complaints to the appropriate personnel.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum two years of clerical experience in a health‑care setting.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Strong critical‑thinking and judgment when handling patient information.

Required skills

• Proficient computer skills.
• Experience using the Accureg patient‑management system.
