District Technical Officer – IPC/WASH in Health Facilities

About the role

The District Technical Officer – IPC/WASH in Health Facilities provides day‑to‑day technical support to health facilities in priority districts of Nampula province. Working under the Provincial Technical Officer – WASH, the officer strengthens infection prevention and control (IPC) and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) practices, supports mentorship, supervision and data‑driven improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Support implementation of IPC and WASH interventions, including hand hygiene, environmental cleaning, water safety and healthcare waste management.
• Conduct routine supportive supervision visits, review progress with facility teams and ensure corrective actions are taken.
• Collect, verify and report IPC/WASH data, maintain district‑level records and monitor key performance indicators.
• Provide on‑the‑job coaching, mentorship and practical orientation to facility staff and community stakeholders.
• Assist facilities in outbreak preparedness, identifying gaps and supporting response actions during public health emergencies.

Required profile

• Good knowledge of IPC principles and WASH requirements in health‑care settings.
• Understanding of district health systems, quality improvement and supportive supervision approaches.
• Ability to work independently in field conditions, travel by motorcycle and communicate effectively in Portuguese (English is an advantage).
• Strong organizational, documentation and reporting skills.
