Utility Operator – Casting Operations

About the role

The Utility Operator supports operators, senior operators and technicians in the casting area, ensuring safe and efficient production of high‑quality aluminium products. The role is hands‑on, covering equipment preparation, material handling and assistance during casting cycles.

Key responsibilities

• Assist operators in DC furnace, DC casting, homo and sawing operations according to the daily production plan.
• Prepare and arrange spares, tools, and casting accessories such as kawool, plug cones, bars, ladles, moulds and sampling spoons.
• Perform scrap segregation, charging and sampling using the SSM system and follow alloy specifications.
• Operate overhead pendant crane for hot metal handling, crucible pouring and tundish operations.
• Operate forklift for moving dross bins, scrap hoppers and other heavy items.
• Support furnace preparation, spout and ladle setup, degasser unit preparation and post‑casting clean‑up.
• Follow all EHS procedures, wet‑weather protocols and the 3 R policy, and report unsafe conditions.

Required profile

• Completed all mandatory training modules listed (general tasks, crane, forklift, etc.) and demonstrated competence before shift assignment.
• Ability to follow detailed work instructions and collaborate effectively within the team.
• Commitment to safety, including adherence to EGA Life‑Saving Rules and zero‑LTI objectives.

Required skills

• Overhead pendant crane operation (hot metal handling).
• Forklift operation in casting and furnace environments.
• Scrap segregation and alloy charging using the SSM system.
• Preparation of casting tools and accessories (kawool, ladles, moulds).
• Basic knowledge of DC furnace and DC casting processes.
