WASH Officer Full-time

About the role

The UNICEF is seeking a dedicated WASH Officer to support its comprehensive water, sanitation and hygiene programme in Mozambique, focusing on the Zambezia province. The role contributes to improving access to safe water and sanitation for vulnerable populations, especially in disaster‑affected and displaced communities.

Key responsibilities

• Implement and monitor WASH interventions aligned with UNICEF’s 2022‑2026 Country Programme.
• Coordinate with national and local authorities, NGOs and humanitarian partners to ensure effective service delivery.
• Respond to climate‑related shocks, such as floods and cyclones, by facilitating emergency water and sanitation support.
• Collect and analyse data on water quality, sanitation coverage and disease trends to inform program adjustments.
• Promote equity‑focused approaches that prioritize the most disadvantaged children and families.

Required profile

• Experience in designing or managing WASH programmes in development or humanitarian settings.
• Understanding of Sustainable Development Goal 6 and equity principles for children’s rights.
• Familiarity with the Zambezia context, including climate risks and disease outbreaks.
• Ability to work collaboratively with government, partners and communities.
