Waste Management Officer

About the role

The Waste Management Officer will report to the Waste Management Coordinator and oversee the activities of the waste management contractor at the Afungi site. The role ensures that all waste handling complies with contractual, procedural and environmental standards.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and control contractor activities, verifying waste segregation, classification, collection, labeling, storage and transfer for various waste streams including organic, mixed, metal, construction & demolition, and hazardous waste.
• Inspect generation points, storage areas, containers, skips, vehicles and equipment to ensure compliance with operational and environmental requirements, and verify waste manifests, transfer notes and traceability records.
• Provide photographic evidence of non‑conformities, conduct routine environmental inspections, maintain inspection records and produce daily reports on waste collection, quantities, incidents and corrective actions.
• Contribute to weekly and monthly environmental reports, deliver toolbox talks on waste segregation and HSE practices, and promote safe working procedures.

Required profile

• Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Management, Environmental Science or a related field.
• Professional experience in waste management or water/wastewater operations, preferably in industrial or construction environments.
• Basic knowledge of environmental permitting, waste classification and wastewater treatment principles.
• Ability to conduct field inspections, collect data and prepare clear reports.
• Strong sense of responsibility, organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Mozambican nationality and willingness to work on a rotational four‑weeks‑on/ four‑weeks‑off schedule.
