Laboratory Supervisor – Analytical Testing & QA

About the role

The Laboratory Supervisor will lead the analytical testing and quality assurance function for Sasol’s upstream production and mid‑stream operations in Inhambane. The role ensures that laboratory results are accurate, timely and compliant with industry standards, supporting product quality, operational reliability and regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise daily laboratory activities, including sample collection, preparation and analysis of crude oil, natural gas, condensates and related products.
• Maintain laboratory equipment, instruments and calibration schedules to guarantee accuracy.
• Implement and monitor quality control procedures, proficiency testing and compliance with ASTM, ISO and API standards.
• Prepare technical reports, certificates of analysis and documentation for regulatory audits.
• Provide guidance on advanced analytical techniques such as chromatography, spectroscopy and wet chemistry.
• Support process optimisation, product blending and custody transfer by delivering reliable laboratory data.
• Lead, mentor and train laboratory technicians, fostering a safety‑first and continuous‑improvement culture.
• Collaborate with production, maintenance, engineering and SHE teams to align laboratory support with business needs.
• Drive innovation, automation and digitalisation of laboratory processes, identifying cost‑saving and efficiency opportunities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Proven experience supervising a laboratory in the oil, gas or chemicals sector.
• Strong understanding of industry standards (ASTM, ISO, API) and regulatory compliance.
• Excellent problem‑solving abilities and a commitment to health, safety and environmental standards.
