Crane Electrical Technician – Maintenance & Fault Finding

About the role

The Crane Electrical Technician is responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of crane systems in a port or heavy‑equipment environment. You will perform electrical maintenance, diagnose faults, and support the overall availability of the equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain safety and discipline in the work area.
• Carry out electrical maintenance, fault finding and monitoring of cranes and related equipment.
• Diagnose issues and apply repair methods to maximise crane availability.
• Submit routine inspection and monitoring reports.
• Respond independently to breakdown calls and report faults.
• Assume maintenance duties in the supervisor’s absence.
• Follow up emergency work and report to the supervisor.
• Perform preventive electrical maintenance as defined in the system.
• Attend breakdowns reported by planning staff immediately.
• Provide accurate work‑order information and ensure work orders are generated for all electrical tasks.
• Record start and end times of maintenance activities.
• Obtain supervisor approval before making purchase requisitions.
• Maintain tidiness and cleanliness of the workshop and equipment.

Required profile

• 1‑3 years of hands‑on experience in a container port or heavy‑equipment setting.
• Degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Experience with heavy equipment in ports, mining or steel industries is preferred.
• Ability to work at heights and knowledge of lifting chains and ropes.

Required skills

• Electrical maintenance and fault diagnosis.
• Preventive maintenance procedures.
• Knowledge of diesel engines, transmissions, pneumatic & hydraulic systems, and brake systems.
• Interpretation of technical manuals, parts catalogs and engineering drawings.
• Strict adherence to safety procedures.
• Working‑at‑heights competency and lifting‑chain/rope expertise.
