QA/QC Welding Specialist

About the role

We are seeking a QA/QC Welding Specialist to join the Owner’s quality team on a major onshore LNG project in Mozambique. The role is site‑based, rotational (28 days on/28 days off) and focuses on ensuring all welding activities comply with international codes, project specifications, and company standards while supporting HSE compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Review and approve welding documentation such as Quality Plans, ITPs, WPS, PQRs, and WQRs.
• Witness and validate welder qualification tests and ensure only approved welders perform work.
• Monitor implementation of qualified WPS and welding parameters on site.
• Coordinate and oversee NDT (RT, UT, MT, PT) and validate results against acceptance criteria.
• Maintain full traceability of materials, consumables, and weld joints.
• Manage NCRs and TQs, perform root‑cause analysis and drive corrective actions.
• Analyse defect trends, recommend mitigation strategies and prepare daily, weekly and monthly reports.
• Promote HSE compliance related to welding hazards.

Required profile

• Minimum 10 years’ experience in welding QA/QC, preferably in Oil & Gas or LNG megaprojects.
• At least 5 years in welding inspection on large EPC or LNG construction sites.
• Strong knowledge of ASME IX, AWS D1.1, ISO 9606 and API 1104.
• Certified Welding Inspector (CWI – AWS) or CSWIP 3.1/3.2 (preferred).
• Degree in Engineering, Metallurgy, Welding, Mechanical or related field.

Required skills

• WPS, PQR, WQR approval and implementation.
• Welder qualification and performance assessment.
• NDT coordination and interpretation (RT, UT, MT, PT).
• Material and consumable traceability systems.
• NCR management and defect analysis.
• Proficiency with international welding codes (ASME IX, AWS D1.1, ISO 9606, API 1104).
