Assistant Material Tester Industrial (Laboratory and Operations)

About the role

The Assistant Material Tester will support the Laboratory Supervisor/Manager in both on‑site and laboratory tasks, ensuring equipment cleanliness, sample preparation, and adherence to quality and safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Clean and maintain all test equipment and company assets regularly.
• Prepare and handle samples for testing, including moving and lifting as required.
• Report deviations, irregularities, and non‑conformances orally.
• Conduct quality and safety inspections and lead daily safety talks.
• Hand over activities efficiently to the next shift.
• Enforce proper use, storage, and maintenance of personal protective equipment.
• Maintain good housekeeping and keep the workplace tidy.
• Assist in training operators and completing competence modules.

Required profile

• Grade 12 or technical equivalent.
• Fluent in Portuguese and English.
• Ability to understand, implement and maintain SGS quality system and civil engineering test methods after training (e.g., SANS, THN 1).
• Physical ability to pick up and move samples as needed.

Required skills

• Sampling and preparation experience (advantageous).
• Understanding of quality system requirements.
• Knowledge of civil engineering test methods.
