Chief Engineer

About the role

The Chief Engineer leads the engineering department of Anantara Bazaruto Island Resort, ensuring all mechanical, electrical and safety systems operate flawlessly to deliver an exceptional guest experience.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with fire, health and safety regulations and provide necessary safety equipment.
• Plan, schedule and oversee preventative maintenance, new projects, extensions and renovations.
• Monitor energy consumption and implement cost‑saving measures.
• Prepare the engineering budget and contribute to strategic and operational planning.
• Liaise with HR on recruitment, manage payroll and departmental expenditures.
• Deliver in‑house mechanical and electrical servicing, repair and maintenance in a discreet, guest‑friendly manner.
• Prioritise and resolve maintenance requests efficiently.
• Develop and lead a technically proficient team of technicians.
• Act as project manager for major works, coordinating with external contractors.
• Stay current with industry trends through seminars and publications.

Required profile

• Fluent in English and the local language.
• Certified in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum five years of experience in a hotel engineering department.
• Good understanding of the operations and priorities of other hotel departments.
