Contract Engineer (Resident) – Special Projects, Maputo

About the role

This resident Contract Engineer position is based in Maputo and reports to the Acting C&P Manager, who in turn reports to the Project Director. The role is hosted by the Special Projects department and acts as the contractual member of the DUET, working alongside the technical Project Engineer. It covers all C&P matters from project framing through project close-out.

Key responsibilities

• Propose the contracting and procurement strategy.
• Run calls for tender: choose the agreement form, prepare the tender dossier, set evaluation criteria, issue and follow up expressions of interest, analyse bids commercially and contractually, negotiate, mitigate risks and present Recommendations to Award.
• Support the Project Engineer on contractual matters during execution, monitor contractor performance and ensure contract close-out.
• Evaluate and manage contractor claims with Legal and Insurance, and help settle claims and lawsuits with Finance and TEPMA1 Management.
• Monitor ongoing contracts and take part in renewals and amendments.
• Create and maintain the Special Projects Contract Register and ensure formal close-out.
• Use TEPMA1 tools such as the Contract Committee, SAP and ARIBA.

Required profile

• Master's degree; international experience required.
• 10-15 years of professional experience, including at least 2 years in technical contracts and exposure to operations.
• Ability to train new C&P staff through C&P induction is mandatory.

Required skills

• Advanced contracts and procurement knowledge, including FIDIC and bespoke forms.
• Claims evaluation and change-order preparation.
• Advanced certification in C&P tools.
• English communication skills; engineering education preferred.
