Driver (IOM Cabo Delgado)

About the role

IOM, a UN-related organization on migration, is recruiting a driver under the supervision of the Supply Chain Officer and the direct supervision of the Senior Logistics Assistant. The driver provides driving services with IOM vehicles in a timely, safe and cost-effective manner to support projects and operational activities in the area of responsibility.

Key responsibilities

• Drive IOM vehicles and transport authorized personnel, using them only for official business.
• Keep the assigned vehicle roadworthy: daily checks of tires, brakes, engine oil, fan belt, and arrange minor repairs; keep safety tools and run a weekly inventory.
• Ensure regular service intervals, keep the vehicle clean inside and out, and make sure it has enough fuel and the right documents for missions.
• Plan the most efficient route with the Security officer, reduce security risks, and report accidents or incidents immediately to the Office of Staff and Security, the Senior Logistics Assistant and the police, documenting everything.
• Maintain an up-to-date vehicle logbook covering distance, locations, fuel and passengers.
• Follow IOM and UNDSS/MOSS compliance, local transit rules, confidentiality and protocol procedures for high-level visits, and support logistics tasks when asked.

Required profile

• Secondary school certificate (at least high school diploma).
• Valid driving licence with at least two years' experience; experience driving armored vehicles is an advantage.
• Experience driving four-wheel vehicles, soft-skinned vehicles and minibuses, with good knowledge of routes in Cabo Delgado and basic vehicle maintenance.
• Fluency in Portuguese and English (oral and written); IOM staff must also be fluent in one of its official languages.
• Good knowledge of HF and VHF radios; basic MS Office is an advantage.
