Driver (Pemba)

About the role

IOM is recruiting a driver in Pemba, Mozambique, under the overall supervision of the Supply Chain Officer and direct supervision of the Senior Logistics Assistant. The driver provides driving services with IOM vehicles in a timely, safe and cost-effective manner to support projects and operational activities in the area of responsibility.

Key responsibilities

• Drive IOM vehicles and transport authorized personnel, using them only for official business
• Keep the assigned vehicle maintained and roadworthy, including daily checks of tires, brakes, engine oil and fan belt, and arrange minor repairs
• Keep records of safety tools, run weekly inventory and report vehicle problems and incidents immediately
• Keep the vehicle clean, refuel it and carry extra fuel in jerrycans where fuel is not guaranteed, and ensure documents are ready for trips
• Plan efficient routes with the Security officer, reduce security risks and document accidents and incidents
• Maintain an up-to-date vehicle logbook covering distance, locations, fuel and passengers
• Follow IOM and UNDSS/MOSS compliance, confidentiality, dress code and protocol for high-level visits, and support logistics tasks when asked

Required profile

• Secondary school certificate (at least High School diploma) from an accredited institution
• Working experience driving four-wheel vehicles, soft-skinned vehicles and minibuses
• Valid driving licence with at least two years' experience; armored vehicle driving is an advantage
• Fluency in Portuguese and English (oral and written)
• Medical fitness, security clearance and visa requirements as applicable

Required skills

• Knowledge of driving rules and minor vehicle repair
• Good knowledge of routes in Cabo Delgado and basic vehicle maintenance
• Experience with HF and VHF radios
• Basic MS Office is an advantage
