Epidemiology Advisor

About the role

Jhpiego Mozambique is seeking an Epidemiology Advisor to provide technical assistance to the Ministry of Health and provincial health directorates, strengthening epidemiological surveillance, preparedness, and response to public health emergencies.

Key responsibilities

• Support real‑time surveillance and outbreak response using the 7‑1‑7 approach.
• Design and implement case‑ and indicator‑based surveillance, including antimicrobial resistance monitoring.
• Develop district‑level preparedness assessment tools and update protocols, tools, and training materials.
• Promote interoperability of health information systems (DHIS2, SIS‑MA, e‑IDSR) and improve data quality, timeliness, and sharing.
• Apply statistical methods for data analysis and support electronic reporting system strengthening.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Epidemiology, Public Health or related field; Field Epidemiology Training Programme (FETP) a plus.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in public health, epidemiological surveillance, and epidemic response.
• Proven experience with outbreak investigation, International Health Regulations, and One Health approaches.
• Strong analytical, communication, and teamwork skills, with ability to work in emergency settings.

Required skills

• Proficiency with health information systems such as DHIS2, ODK and Power BI.
• Statistical data analysis and visualization.
• Knowledge of epidemiological methods and surveillance protocols.
